Choosing Istanbul for medical treatment

Istanbul is a very well know location for medical travel. It is well known for doctors with the best reputations not only in Turkey but also worldwide. Dr. Kamran Aghayev is an internationally recognised neurosurgeon and has been accepting patients from overseas for years. As a team, we are dedicated to taking care of every aspect of patients' needs while they are in Istanbul.

Before travelling

You should always contact our team prior you visit Istanbul. First, our team will collect your medical records for Dr. Aghayev to review your case. He will decide whether you are a neurosurgical patient or not. Second, proper scheduling is of paramount importance. To avoid delays, please always contact us before planning your visit. Once you have your itinerary, please send it to us so we will make appropriate preparations for your treatment.

Arriving and departing from Istanbul

You can always travel to Istanbul city by bus, train, ferry or plane. The best option depends on where you are coming from. The majority of international patients choose air travel. There are two airports in Istanbul - Istanbul airport on the European side and Sabiha airport on the Asian side. Both are international airports which serve millions of travellers annually.

Visa and immigration issues

As you are travelling to a different country you always have to do good research about visa and the documents you will need to cross the border. Recently, the Turkish government has changed visa policies, now many tourists can apply for the visa online in a really simple way.  You can check all the rules on the Turkish Visa Information website, as well as the fees and how to get your visa on arrival.

Our part in Istanbul

Turkey is one of the most important international destinations for tourism and medical treatment. Therefore, we have chosen a city in the middle of the world and have a suitable character for all the people in the world. Upon arriving to Turkey, our case manager will meet and greet the patient and his/her companions at the airport and transfer them to the hotel, which has been pre-selected according to the patient's choice. If surgery has been scheduled the patient might be transferred directly to the hospital. The patient will meet the doctor and discuss the condition in the patient's mother language. The doctor might request additional tests to confirm the diagnosis. Whether it is surgery or conservative treatment we always put the patient's benefits as our top priority. We work with the most modern hospitals in Istanbul which are suitable even for patients with special needs.  And we want to make sure that our patients receive the best service quality.

Having surgery overseas

Whether it is in the patient's own town or overseas surgery is a very stressful procedure to have. Visting other city and even country might be especially difficult to handle. Neurosurgery stands out from other specialities since it deals with patients with the highest rate of difficulty. Therefore having a neurosurgical procedure overseas is not an easy decision to make. There are many reasons for people to choose us. We offer full spectrum of neurosurgical procedures that patients might not have in their native country. For example, the PURE approach has been developed by Dr. Aghayev and performed only by him. Also complex neurosurgical procedures with sophisticated equipment might not be available in many third-world countries. Another reason for choosing Dr. Aghayev and his team is inability to find a specialist and schedule surgery in mother country. Dr. Aghayev has a reputation of the highly dedicated neurosurgeon who spends most of his time taking care of his patients.

The best way to avoid fear and anxiety associated with surgery is to contact us. Remember we have treated thousands of patients from every corner of the world. Proving our team with all your medical records and disease history will make easier for us to establish the diagnosis and plan surgery if needed. Therefore you will be informed beforehand about the procedure prior travieling to Turkey. We are here to help you to pass painlessly and effortlessly through the entire process.

In the vast majority of cases, we are capable of informing patients about the type of planned surgery, estimated stay in the hospital, and in Istanbul, possible complications and delays. In rare cases, patients whether do not have a diagnosis by the time of arrival or require additional tests for confirmation. These patients undergo additional testing prior to their surgery.

After surgery, Dr. Aghayev makes sure that the patient is ready to go back home before allowing him/her to travel. Our motto is "hope for the best prepare for the worst". That is why the average stay in Istanbul for neurosurgical patients is longer than for other specialities. We want to be sure that patients will be safe in their mother countries even in the absence of any neurosurgical coverage.
