Professional Biography

     Kamran Aghayev, MD is an internationally recognized neurosurgeon who stands at the forefront of complex brain and spine procedures. He is currently an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Biruni Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

         Dr. Aghayev is an expert in the care of complex brain and spine disorders such as brain aneurysms, AVM’s, brain tumors, movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia), functional disorders (epilepsy, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm), skull base surgery, complex spine disorders, spinal tumors, and thoracic outlet syndrome.

        Dr Aghayev graduated with Summa Cum Laude from Azerbaijan Medical University in 2001. He chose to specialize in neurosurgery and completed his residency in neurological surgery in 2002-2009 at Hacettepe School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey. Dr. Aghayev then completed his Spinal Oncology Clinical Fellowship program at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, USA. Next year he completed a second-year clinical fellowship in the field of Neuro-Oncology. He was asked to join H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center faculty and he became a Clinical Instructor of Neurosurgery.

Dr Aghayev returned to Turkey in 2015, and he joined Biruni University in January 2017 to become Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery. He is dedicated to the clinical, scientific and educational activity. He has published more than 40 scientific articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and had numerous oral presentation in many scientific meeting across the globe. He is currently an editor for several peer-reviewed scientific journals.

       Surgical innovation is a significant part of Dr. Aghayev’s work. He has developed several unique surgical techniques. Among them is the revolutionary posterior minimally invasive technique for surgical treatment of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS). Due to Dr Aghayev’s mastery, thousands of his patients from different parts of the world have found a cure for their disorders.
